What do you watch on TV?

What do you watch on tv? I mean really watch, not just turn on for the sake of turning on, but really can't miss a show watch. For the next week, make a list of everything you watch, tick off whether it's a show you really watch or a show that you have on to have on. You may be surprised how much tv you watch, we were when we did this years ago. Could probably handle doing it again.

Now, I want you to see what channels they are on. Is it a local channel, one that you can watch online (legally and freely) or is one that you need a special service for?

If you watch most of your shows on local tv, why not think about getting rid of cable or satellite, and getting an antenna? We did this about 4.5 years ago. We miss some shows like Holmes on Homes now, and some other little things, but most of our shows we can watch online at discoverychannel.ca, hgtv.ca, ctv.ca, globaltv.ca etc. That's for Canada. Unfortunately, we can't watch american channels here in Canada online yet, but a lot of their key shows are online.

It's nice not having to stay up late to watch the show when they want you to watch it, but getting to watch it on your own time and with fewer commercials.

Think how much money you can save by getting rid of cable or satellite, or even cutting back on what you packages you have. Then, there's also computer devices, like the Apple TV, here you are able to rent movies, buy and download seasons of shows that you can then watch when you are ready to watch them. This is how I like my children to watch their shows. Then I don't have them exposed to the, "I wants" that the commercials bring on.

Check it out and see if this can help you out to put some extra dollars in your pocket, and save you some time in your life.

Enjoy your day!

PS Don't forget to check out the bread contest!

That's my tip to you.

What a great suggestion regarding television!

We got rid of television all together about 8 years ago, when our youngest was about 6 years old and the other two were 13.

It wasn't about cost so much as about trash. Haven't ever regretted it or missed much of anything.

We do have a 19 inch jobby with a dvd player for movies.

I'm guessing lots of folks will look at their tv habits differently after this exercise.

Hi Liz, found you thanks to Laura Jane and Whimfield.

We stopped "buying" TV a few years ago. We watch DVD's together.
Amazing how much shorter the children make their wish lists.

We find that we don't really miss TV.
