My Brag Deals Today!
Today, I went out shopping with my mother looking for a raincoat for my little guy (didn't find one ANYWHERE!), I found a couple of great deals. I just had to share them with you, one to brag (we all like a deal) and two, so that you can take advantage if you like.
We were headed in to Old Navy to see if there were any rain coats left/on sale (none, don't look), and my daughter saw the sand pails at Michael's. She reminded me that she needed a new one as her sister had an accident with her's.
Well, their buckets and shovels are usually $1.50, so I picked up two. My mom wanted to check out a couple of sales inside so we went in to poke around.
In the clearance section they had all of their Easter items on for 70%. There, on the bottom shelf, were buckets and shovels. Yes, they were on sale for 70% off! Instead of $1.50, I only had to pay $0.45 because they were Easter colours! These were the same colours that I was going to get outside.
If you're looking for some pails and shovels for the summer, this is a great deal that you don't want to pass up. I only needed two, but because they were so cheap, I bought double! That's four buckets and shovels, for less than the price of ONE bucket and shovel that I walked in to the store to pay for!
Next stop for the rain coat was The Children's Place. I had a coupon and they had some great sales going on, so I thought I would check it out to see if there was anything there to get.
No raincoats.
BUT...
As I was walking up to the cash, a sign for $9.99 caught my eye. On one side, there was what I thought were white dress shirts, on the other beautiful dresses. I figured the sign was only for the one side, but this little thought kept pestering me to ask about the dresses. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, and thought there was no way the dresses would be that cheap.
Well, I was wrong.
The dresses were marked down from $50 to $30 to $9.99!!
Great deal!
If you need a dress for church or any other formal occassion, check out your local store of The Children's Place and see if there are any great deals there.
Have you found a great deal lately? I would love to hear about it. Please share with us.

Book Sale!
I love to read! Books are a wonderful way to escape from life, however, they can be rather expensive. Borowing from the library is one way to get to read your books for free. Another way is to trade books with friends or to buy books used.
One other way that our family loves, and is happening this weekend at the Confederation Library here in Charlottetown, is a library book sale. This a great way to get books for a great price and if they are in good enough condition can be used for gifts for parties or Christmas. I wish they had information on their site about it. The sale takes place tomorrow from 10-5 and it's cash only. Tell me of any good deals you get at the sale.
Enjoy your day!
Coupon for seeds
Hello all, gardening is one of the most frugal ways to save money on your grocery bill, and believe it or not, spring is coming and it's time to start those transplants. Time to buy your seeds, dirt and containers. Don't you feel warmer just thinking of the garden? Home depot has a deal on this week for buying seeds. Print this coupon off and when you buy two packages of seeds, you get the third free!
It says one per customer, but it doesn't say anything about being a customer at different times or printing off more than one and getting your family members to help you out! Happy gardening!

Coupons, Coupons, Coupons!
I hear a lot of people talking about Extreme Couponing. I haven't watched it yet (no cable), but sure would love to be able to get the deals!
Today I thought I would share with you some great sites I go to for Canadian coupons. I sure wish they were as abundant as they are in the states.
So here for the taking are my top go to sites:
brandsaver.ca
websaver.ca
save.ca
smartcanucks.ca
gocoupons.ca
fabuloussavings.ca
Check newspapers, magazines and instore coupons. Stock up on them for sale days. Ask around.
Plus, I go to sites of products I use frequently and check for coupons. Sometimes I even sign up for their newsletters so I can get extra coupons. So go to the sites of products that you use frequently and check it out.
One other site you should check out: http://canadianfreestuff.com/ She has a lot of info on looking for and using coupons.
Tell me, do you have another place you go to for coupons? I would love to add more to my list!

Helpful Reader Tips
Good morning all,
Wonderful reader Nicole sent me a fantistic tip filled email awhile back and I am finally getting around to sharing it with all of you. Check out her tips and check out her blog! Leave a comment for her telling her that you came from here.
And, hey, if any of you other readers out there have some tips you would like to share, email me at smile_zil at yahoo dot ca and I'll get them up here with a link to your blog as well!
Enjoy your day!
Hi ! It's Nicole from the blog Life's Simple Pleasure's!
I would love to share some tips with you as I am currently a cashier at Superstore - lots of inside goodies! And now that I've found you, I can send them along as I think of them!
Here's a few:
1) Some Superstore's have implemented a "Coupon Zone" in which they offer coupons for products in the store, mostly on no name products, but some other ones (last week they had $5 off of Aveno!). They have one at our store, and I've seen it in Calgary so it is something that shoppers can look out for- it's located in the foyer by where you get your cart!
2) When buying shampoo/conditioner, it pays off to not just take the front bottle because often companies will send a few boxes with "Bonuses" in them- I've seen this with Dove actually where it is the exact same price for more product- so have a look around- hard find, but a good one nonetheless!
3) If a product comes up the wrong price and you catch the mistake you are supposed to receive the product for free (if it's under $10) and if it's over $10, you receive $10 off of your purchase. I would double check this with each store but that is the policy!
4) Superstore is also offering a 1 cent rebate on reusable bags now- it's a small amount but if you frequently use reuseable bags- its worth it to get your penny back!
5) If you need moving boxes the produce department gives away banana boxes for free (you just have to catch them at the right time before they get recycled!)
6) Some Superstores offer a cooking class inwhich you receive at 3 to 4 course meal for only $18. As well, in our store and I'm sure in others, they offer a What's for Dinner Lunch which costs $10, and when you attend you get a $10 gift card. (again you would have to check locally, but it is something that we do!)
Those are just some ideas off of the top of my head! I will gladly share any ideas that come up that I think you might find useful!
Nicole
I just remembered two more things!:
- On each barcode/price tag in front of products there are two important (yet tiny font) items
1. It will tell you the price per 100 g on some items, so for people who are unsure about which brand is cheaper or hate doing math, you can actually compare it there.
2. it will say how long the product is on sale for (supesrtore implemented a new "Just Lower Prices" which means there are flyer prodcuts but also price roll backs. this way, you can see how long particular item is on sale for. It is great for budgeting or for people who walk, helps you decide if you can wait until the next trip to buy things and carry them home!
3. also important, some places offer a 2 for $5 sale(for example) and you have to purchase both items to get the price. But at Superstore and other stores, you can actually get the 1 at 2 for $5 price- you don't have to purchase both! I hope that makes sense I think I was confusing! But basically it is that people don't have to buy 2, they can buy one and still get the sale :)
that's all for now :)

My Fantastic Deal Last Week!
I just had to share what I was able to get last week. I feel so excited! Remember when I posted about the coupons for the games on the back of the Rice Krispie boxes? The one for $10 off board games? (There are still some available at Walmart btw) And remember when I posted about starting your Christmas shopping WAY early? Well last week, I used two of these coupons when Zellers had a bunch of games onsale for $15 from $23 regular. I bought two of these games for gifts for this year and with the sale and my two $10 coupons, I only paid $15 with tax! I saved $32 on board games. Can I just say here that I can't believe how expensive games are?
Last week, I also cashed in on my raincheque that I had from Sobeys for their steaks that they had onsale a month ago of buying one steak and getting two free. I bought 18 really great steaks for $50! Would have regularly cost me over $150! Gotta love it! Not only was this a great deal, but because I had a raincheque for such a quantity, the butcher had to go and cut fresh steak in the back room for me. Really fresh meat.
I love a deal. I would love to hear about great deals that you found recently. Post a comment here for bragging rights.

Black Friday Sales!
I am new to this whole black Friday deal. I honestly don't pay attention to sales in the states because they don't usually ship here. However, according to red flag deals, amazon has lots of deals happening now. One of the interesting ones would be Free Monopoly Deal Card Game with Purchase of $25 or More. Check it out! And let me know of any other great black Friday deals that will ship here.
By the way, why is it called Black Friday?

Sneaky Frugal Me
Last night, I was at a certain store buying some games that were on for buy one get one half price and using my game coupon from Rice Krispies, and overheard a conversation near by. Really, I wasn't being nosy, but when they mentioned coupon, my interest was peaked. Anyway, one person was questioning the other as to whether these games counted for the coupon, because it seemed to good to be true. To which the other party to the conversation answered that yes indeed it did, because that's how they read it on a BLOG!!
I am being very presumptuous, but I sure would like to think that they meant THIS blog. It would be wonderful to know that I helped someone get a deal.
That said, I would like to offer a word to the wise about coupons. Make sure you read the fine print on the coupon. I had. Unfortunately, the cashier had not and I had to persuade her that it was indeed alright for me to use the coupon with this sale. She so did not want me to get the deal. In fact, she ended up calling over her supervisor and asking her. The supervisor seemed as though she was debating, so I helped her out by informing her that the fine print didn't say I couldn't.
Because I knew what was on the coupon, I got my deal. I felt really bad for the people behind me, and kept apologizing to them. They were extremely kind and actually wanted to know where to get the coupon. So at least, I guess, I helped them for a deal.
Also, another note about deals. One of the games that I bought at full price yesterday, is in the flyer today for 1/2 off. IF you don't open a product and go in rather early in the sale, most stores will let you return it and you can repurchase the product on sale.
My total last night would have been over $90, but with sales and coupons, I only ended up paying $31! Wonderful eh?
Enjoy your day!
Old Navy Deal
In my inbox this morning, I found a lovely email from Old Navy, stating that they now have 50% off their clearance prices! Yahoo! A deal is great, but a deal ON a deal is even better! Check it out.
Enjoy your day!
Coupons
Honestly, how many of you use coupons when you shop? Does having a coupon decide where to shop and what to buy? I must admit, that I wish we had as many coupons and areas to get coupons as they do in the states. We do have some coupon sites here in Canada.
Some of the sites that you can get coupons on are save.ca (but you have to wait for the coupons to be mailed to you), coupons.smartcanucks.ca, where they have all of their coupons broken down in to categories (some are printable and some are mailed to you), red flag deals, and Bargain Moose.
Remember when using your coupons, to make sure you check the expiration date and actually get the product. Also, check the unit price, because there may be another brand that is on sale for a better price.
Check the stores when you are doing your regular shopping. When they have the instore coupons on display, grab a couple of coupons for later on. Not the whole pack, but a reasonable number, 3 or 4. Then save them for when the product to go on sale. It's like getting a present.
I once had a coupon for Honey Bunches of Oats for $1.50 off when you bought two. Well, I held on for a little bit, and it went on for a good sale. I managed to get a box for $0.94!! Now there is something to brag about.
Another place to get coupons is to CALL the company. Writing in, or emailing doesn't do as much, but if you call in to ask a question, give a suggestion, or have a comment, they may (if you are very nice) send you some really good coupons to buy more of their product. It's work on your part, but it's like getting paid with coupons.
I do wish that there were more places to get coupons, like in the newspaper or on products a bit more, or if they had double coupon days at the store, or honoured their competitors coupons as well. But I will take them when and where I can.
Tell me, do you have a great place to get coupons, or a great deal you want to share about? Please feel free.
Enjoy your day!
